Following the scenic route

For Emily Fletcher, adventure is never far away. Raised in Wylie, Texas, just outside of Dallas, Fletcher has always enjoyed exploring new places and creating lasting memories. She chose Texas State University because her sister began attending before her, but she also quickly fell in love with the San Marcos area as well. Now a Public Relations major and History minor, she is focused on developing the communication and storytelling needed for her future career.

Friends describe Fletcher as thoughtful, caring, hardworking, and independent. Those qualities have been shaped by her experience working as a server and bartender, where she often works more than 40 hours a week in a physically demanding environment. Balancing work and school has taught her resilience, a positive attitude, and the importance of connecting with people from all walks of life.

Outside of work and class, Fletcher’s passions include music, tattoos, travel, and her two cats, Jet and Zuko who in her words are her “most prized possessions”. Some of her favorite travel memories come from trips to Amsterdam and Switzerland, where she explored beautiful landscapes, experienced new cultures, and shared unforgettable adventures with her sister and best friend Kaitlyn. She credits those experiences for helping to strengthen her love for the outdoors as well as traveling.

As she prepares for the Lake Tahoe program, Fletcher is excited to explore a destination she has always wanted to visit. She looks forward to hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, and experiencing the area's beauty. Beyond the new adventure, she hopes to improve her writing skills while gaining valuable professional experience. For Emily Fletcher, the trip is just another exciting opportunity to follow her scenic route and discover where it leads next.
